Gender intro

"Class,race,sexuality,gender and all other categories by which we categorize and dismiss each other need to be excavated from the inside "is a quote by Dorothy Allison. The meaning taken from this quote is that it does not matter your race, your sexuality or your gender we should only care for who you are as a person and what to bring to this society. Also that we should dismiss these categories that society puts on us. This quote is valid because  if all these categorize weren't taken to consideration life would be much easier. This can  be seen in The Help because the African American women get treated harshly for being black, for not having an education and for , being women.

The theme for this book is gender.

I choose this book because I had watched the movie and decided the book would probably be better than the movie. And also because the story is very interesting and easy to read. What I think is going to happen in this book is what I saw in the movie Skeeter one of the characters in this book is going to write about the struggles with maids in 1962 Jackson ,Mississippi.

The hero

"A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strengh to perserve and endure in spite of overwhel ming obstacles" -Christopher Reeve

What this quote means to me is that ayone could be a hero anyone who has the strengh to overcome and endure their live obstacles.And since everyone has life obstacles anyone could be a hero.

I agree with this quote because like I said anyone who has the strengh to overcome their problems and carry on with life is a hero.They don't need to be strong or have super powers or be rich or anything like that all you have to have is emotional strengh.Many people sometimes don't know how to cope with their own problems and sometimes that can lead to irrational desicions like suicide so it's hard to overcome obstacles in life and be brave but many people do it everyday.

It usually happens to me all the time in school.Theres times where I'm in class and teachers make me do things that I don't feel comfterable doing like discussing something infront of the class,or reading something aloud.I just have to get over my fear and do it.If I decide that it's better not to try then I won't get anywhere in life and i'll become a hobo.There's also peer presure.When friends or just people around you tell you to do something that sounds fun but lead to bad things.Many people fall into that peer presure.But I know for myself that I'm not like that I like being myself and I don't need to change for anybody.That's another obstacle i've gotten thru.Other times I have problems with keeping up with work in school but I always try to be opptimistic about it and just get things done.I've also had obstacles with talking to some people I don't usually talk but I just go for it and start conversation.These things happen all the time that's why I just have to get over it and endure it.
